Mathematical Analysis

Every value of sin(x) at once, the entire curve, counts as a single point in a space of functions. It sounds like a trick of notation. It is the move that makes everything after it possible.

An operator takes one function and hands back another: differentiate it, shift it, integrate it. Apply it again and again and the point hops through the space, leaving a trail.

Now let the operator act for any real time t, not just whole steps. The hops join into a smooth flow, a strongly continuous semigroup, and that flow is precisely what solves a partial differential equation. Heat, waves, traffic.

Keep going and something absurd happens. That one trajectory comes arbitrarily close to every point in the space: pick any target and any tolerance, and the orbit eventually lands inside it. No randomness, no nonlinearity, nothing hidden. A perfectly deterministic linear system, behaving chaotically. It is called hypercyclicity, I have spent twenty years on it, and I still find it hard to believe.
