Graph Theory
Studying a system by what connects to what, and what travels along the edges.
A graph is the simplest model of a complex world: things, and which of them are linked. Roads of a city, contacts in an epidemic, units of a neural network. The same three questions keep cutting across every discipline that uses one: what is the shortest path, which vertices matter most, and where are the communities. I work on the algorithms and on the applications, from car-rental fleets to community detection in clinical questionnaires.
